As spring approaches more and more birds catch my ears, and the sun has actually begun to warm my skin, opposed to freezing my snot and catching my breath. Because it is Montana, people have continued hiking all winter but now trails have begun to be more populated as well as the awakening of bears and other, smaller, furry, less intimidating creatures.<br />
<br />
It feels good to once again hold my camera in my gloveless hand and breath some fresh air without flying down a mountain on skis, as wonderful as that is. With snow in the forecast, it turned out to be a beautiful day and a great dose of fresh air and that good old mother nature.<br />

Add a little elevation and fabulous views topped with snow and you just can't get much better then that.<br />

Snow although beautiful can be an extremely difficult subject to photograph, due to its high contrast or lack of contrast at all depending. It would seem that in Montana we are stuck in Limbo, somewhere between fall and winter. It is getting too cold for hiking but not enough snow to break out the snowshoes and skis yet. With frosty mornings boasting twenty degree temperatures it is getting harder to find the motivation to get up from the warmth of my covers. Luckily for me, it is hard to pass up a beautifully sunny day. With several layers of clothing applied, I set out with my dog and roommate in tow with promises of steamy warm, and delicious coffee.<br />
<br />
Hyalite Canyon is one of the most popular recreation areas in both winter and summer, due to its reservoir and waterfalls. Which is what continuously keeps me returning as well. With a fresh coat of snow the hike seemed even more refreshing and appealing.<br />

This area is world renowned for its beauty and it sure did live up to my expectations. As you drive along there are so many trails to chose from and explore it is hard to do only one. I chose Big Creek Trail which is about half way between Yellowstone and Livingston Montana. Although the colors of the area were beautiful, I chose to do my photos all in black and white this time because I wanted to do something different, but also because it seemed to feel more old and simple.<br />

I love to stop and take pictures while I am driving, whenever I see something that catches my eye it is really hard to not stop and take advantage of it. Some of my best photographs were taken pulled over on the side of a road somewhere. </div>

It is amazing how quickly you become engulfed in the back country, I can leave my house and then fifteen minutes later be out in the mountains with not a person around. Which is one of the reasons why I love Montana. There is always one mountain range after another. </div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
All of the trails in this area connect one way or another. If I wanted I could probably easily hike from Bozeman to Yellowstone without having to step off the trail. Which is also one of the reasons why I decided to turn around when I hit Cottonwood Creek. Yellowstone was a bit ambitious for me!</div>

Each one is shockingly different and equally as beautiful. In the fall, Hyalite Canyon becomes a quite area where you don't run into nearly as many people as you would in the summer. Only seven miles out of town, Hyalite and Palisade falls are two beautiful little treasures with lots of other hikes and stops along the way.<br />

This is one of many waterfalls in the area. Although it is a beautiful sight now, I can only imagine how it looks in the spring when the snow starts melting into the canyon. I hope that you all enjoyed my post and get out there to enjoy the beautiful fall colors!</div>

Everywhere I look I am surrounded by beautiful mountain ranges and some even several miles from my home. A thunder storm had just rolled out and the skies had cleared so I ran up to Middle Cottonwood after work. The drive up there was quite pleasant through the country and backing up to the Bridger mountain range. I ooeed and aawed at old barns and landscapes but didn't stop, so that I could make it up and back before the sun set. Here is the trail markings at the actual end of the trail.<br />

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
As you can see not the most strenuous hike, but perfect for a hike after work. I went up in the late afternoon which is not the best lighting for photography, it creates a lot of shadows and overexposed areas in your photograph. Since this hike was fairly wooded, I ended up not having to much of a hard time with it. </div>

Towards the turn around marker the trail goes into into a meadow and then branches off into several other hikes into the Bridgers. On my way back I ran into a few hikers and mountain bikers who were discussing the momma bear and baby they saw back by the second bridge. Probably lucky for me, I did not run into them on my way back. Although winter is defiantly coming, quickly, I am eager to get a few more hikes in before the snow sticks. </div>

Then it is only another seven miles up a dirt road to a beautiful lake with a trail looping the outskirts. Well, that was all well and dandy until I hit the dirt road. Apparently in Washington dirt roads mean finely packed small pieces of rock, while in Montana they are a bit more hard core then that. Meaning, giant boulders and one foot deep potholes.<br />

Since I am still looking for a job, I have lots of time on my hands to go out and explore the area. My first hike that I chose to do was apparently a bit ambitious for me. It was up Sypes Canyon and about a six mile hike...with a lot of incline. As I was breathing heavily and maybe letting my dog pull me a bit, a runner passed me with a gentle wave to make me feel sooo in shape. But, I made it to the top and it was defiantly worth it!<br />

When we want to go hiking or have people visiting we go up to Hurricane Ridge. About twenty five miles out of Port Angeles Washington, Hurricane Ridge has spectacular views of not only the incredible Olympic mountain range, but of ocean and wildlife as well. As one of my last weekends in Washington, I wanted to make one more trip up with the family. Unfortunately, I picked labor day weekend so there was a lack of parking spaces but defiantly not a lack of extraordinary views and large amounts of deer and marmots.<br />

This photograph is probably my favorite because it gives you a perspective of what you are surrounded by while you are hiking and it is an incredible one. Unfortunately I went up in the later afternoon, which causes harsher lighting so the colors are not as brilliant and rich as I would like but I think that you can get the idea of how beautiful it is. </div>

I have grown up being surrounded by beautiful mountains, forests and breathtaking coasts. Since I have lived in the Seattle area for the last ten years, I have spent most of my time in the Olympic mountain range. However, this weekend my brother and I went back to the south side of the state where we use to live when we were younger.<br />
<br />
Yale lake is situated at the foot hills of Mount Saint Helens and only twelve miles from Apes Caves. (if you haven't been to Ape Caves...go!) Because we went on a weekday for the most part, we had the lake to ourselves which allowed me to take lots of photographs.<br />

Here is a picture of Yale Lake later in the evening with Mount Saint Helens barely peeking out from behind the clouds in the background. I love photographing in the late afternoon because that is where I tend to find the beautiful golden lighting.<br />

This summers road trip was prompted by a friends wedding and turned into a trip to find an apartment in Montana. It began by driving from Seattle to Pullman the first day where I met with old friends and took some nice long strolls down memory lane. The wedding was about thirty miles outside of Pullman on the Snake river surrounded by impressive cliff walls.<br />

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
After a few days in Pullman I left one very early morning and headed to Bozeman Montana. Right when the border changes from Idaho to Montana is one of the prettiest and dramatic landscapes I have seen. This picture just doesn't do it justice. (maybe because it was taken from a car...) </div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I finally reached the beautiful Bozeman Montana area and was in awe of how much sky there was...which is probably why it is called big sky country...or the fact that I currently live on an island that is surrounded by trees. Either way, I am always surprised by the beauty there is in our country. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I didn't spend much time in Montana since I had to get back to work the next day, so I started the very long trek back to Seattle. My furry companion and I certainly got anxious to get out of the car as we started to get long glimpses of ocean. </div>

Ever since it has been one of the highlights of our summer. Although I unfortunately can not convey through photos the wonderful smells of ocean, lavender and sunshine that accompany this wonderful festival, nor the lavender flavored ice cream, I hope that you are able to get a sense of why I love this festival so much! For me photography is all about getting out there and taking pictures of whatever catches your eye and this festival allows me to do just that. If you have ever been to Sequim, Washington the first thing that will catch your eyes will probably either be the dramatic coast line or the foothills of the Olympic Mountains and here is a photograph of each.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhvylkU0N4kFiKg3emyZLVIBW9kwveKq8xl6fd5ZY2uh007tLfUI17-WeegLbLW2cKmLCseAR1TVDsTZoI6ZjtJy4TzSArf09PNCLTBftTz4TZLbn_tTHWR3bD__Qob0uMZ72PNm1gXbn8/s1600/DSC_0231.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhvylkU0N4kFiKg3emyZLVIBW9kwveKq8xl6fd5ZY2uh007tLfUI17-WeegLbLW2cKmLCseAR1TVDsTZoI6ZjtJy4TzSArf09PNCLTBftTz4TZLbn_tTHWR3bD__Qob0uMZ72PNm1gXbn8/s1600/DSC_0231.jpg" height="263" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Sequim is on the top part of Washington right on the entrance to the Puget Sound. One of my favorite hikes is to go out on the five mile spit to the lighthouse, where you become surrounded by ocean.</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Another of my favorite hikes (are you catching on to a pattern here?) is also just outside of Sequim. Hurricane Ridge is at the heart of the olympics and an amazing sight to see no matter how long you have lived in the area. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
So back to Lavender...there are fields and fields of it and farm after farm of it as well and it sure does smell and look heavenly! </div>

Not just because the sun makes constant and may I add, warm apperances but because it means longer days, camping, barbecues and of course the sprouting of beautiful flowers...everywhere! Even though I don't get summers off as I once did, I am lucky enough to work in a place that is extremely photogenic.<br />

Here are some closeups of flowers that I found as I was walking around. It never fails to surprise me how many things I find to take pictures of when I least expect it. </div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Hollyhocks, pictured above are so amazing. They usually tower way above my height with beautiful and detailed flowers. Unfortunately, to photograph them strait on showing the height can create a boring photograph, so I tried a new angle that I found much more appealing. </div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Lastly, I found some daises. For some reason I have always loved to photograph them from below rather then the top. The shadows that the petals create mixed with the contrast of the blue sky create a combination that makes the photographer in me smile with glee. </div>

In that time, as you can imagine, I have grown very comfortable and somewhat attached. As of several days ago I have officially stepped into the semi professional camera world and it feels great as well as intimidating. My new camera in both size and weight has probably doubled...in fact so has the amount of memory, focal length and battery capacity. <div>
<br /></div>
<div>
Yesterday I had a break in my crazy work schedule, so I decided to take out my camera for a spin. I happen to be very lucky in that my work is nicely situated in both a beautiful location as well as having beautifully kept "grounds". For the last several weeks, we have had the most beautiful wisteria blooming, as well as roses, california poppies and columbine. </div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I can't believe how many years I have seen this beautiful vine growing and how long I have waited to photograph it. Now I just have to find different variations!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj2vM5FJZurhlVS2pwUG9VWbNA3yOo2JewDV-i8O-6RbgbndiQIlg3kT9xpXnpVr6NCcj8a6RC3jCZ82Zktu3PXWcVxJJB4KLZBEEqxXMVW4j34IsvMqk8FH5QWTIgbBU-52ojjpV55ET8/s1600/DSC_0013_edited-1.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="265" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj2vM5FJZurhlVS2pwUG9VWbNA3yOo2JewDV-i8O-6RbgbndiQIlg3kT9xpXnpVr6NCcj8a6RC3jCZ82Zktu3PXWcVxJJB4KLZBEEqxXMVW4j34IsvMqk8FH5QWTIgbBU-52ojjpV55ET8/s400/DSC_0013_edited-1.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
When I tried for my first shot I had a hard time getting my camera to focus automatically. Therefor I tried manually focusing to find that I didn't know where the ring was...heh heh. So about fifteen shots later I finally figured it out. (I should probably read the owners manual first) In the mean time I kept getting a lot of blurry shots, which I ended up liking, mostly because they reminded me of an impressionistic painting. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
When I photograph I tend to shoot more on the macro side then anything else. Unfortunately my lens is more on the telephoto side, which is great for some things, but when it comes to flowers it can be terribly frustrating. Maybe my tendencies for macro photography are due to my photography professor always saying to get up close and personal with your subject...or maybe I like the idea of photographing things that are not normally or easily noticed. Either way, getting use to a new vantage point resulted in some different and interesting photos. </div>

When it comes to me, put any sort of flower in front of the word festival and I will even get butterflies of happiness. Because of this un contained excitement out in the field I have lots of photographs to share with you.<br />
<br />
This was my first time going to the Skagit Valley Tulip Festival and it exceeded my expectations. To get there we decided to take the Port Townsend Ferry up to Whidbey Island and take the bridge over deception pass. For those of you who have not had the privilege to visit this area, the view is breathtaking...literally.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjCAMYBS7h9r1sqNqz5lhvSTecxhW6Pw0ZueNxlMZKZrPedTmvkxTv4Ck74mtRDkqvecCEtPu6K1cYflVtwiPwHcbfWo9oWNvUY0aRlHyzf7vicRCJLXS2SL36yWHDDMqwqlccxNYb3M2Y/s1600/4.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="225" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjCAMYBS7h9r1sqNqz5lhvSTecxhW6Pw0ZueNxlMZKZrPedTmvkxTv4Ck74mtRDkqvecCEtPu6K1cYflVtwiPwHcbfWo9oWNvUY0aRlHyzf7vicRCJLXS2SL36yWHDDMqwqlccxNYb3M2Y/s400/4.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
In order to take this picture I had to walk to the center of the bridge, that not only has some great height to it, but also had cars whizzing past your body by only a foot (I am probably exaggerating, but that is what it felt like!). I think my palms might be sweating even as I write about it...did I mention that I am not particularly afraid of heights either? Anyways, my point being, if you get the chance to drive through Whidbey Island, take it! It is beautiful! But be warned.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Once we passed through all the wonderful little towns headed towards Mount Vernon, we began to spot glimpses of fields displaying wonderfully bright patches of color. With Mount Baker behind us as a background, I began to have fun, relax and take lots of pictures of one of my favorite subjects, flowers, thousands and thousands of flowers!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj6ONQ8YTym8eSdRToXkx219DsvQt7kjDeKY6G90GA8ksFbQk-e-LMuziSntwTbDLHtGbz7SHT2cBLkkHf0_EqJuk151E5FUsFrdR9obppY3StimN1fTyaC_eLCagXhBdxY1nC4PqDIIvA/s1600/3.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="180" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj6ONQ8YTym8eSdRToXkx219DsvQt7kjDeKY6G90GA8ksFbQk-e-LMuziSntwTbDLHtGbz7SHT2cBLkkHf0_EqJuk151E5FUsFrdR9obppY3StimN1fTyaC_eLCagXhBdxY1nC4PqDIIvA/s320/3.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
This is the first field that we stopped at. The time of day was perfect for lighting and two bike riders just happened to pass by giving me a nice photo opportunity. </div>

Purple and green make a beautiful contrast. For some reason the phrase from the Beatles song, "strawberry fields forever" kept popping up in my head throughout the day. Maybe because the fields went on forever?</div>

The sun starts to come out more and small groups of flowers start emerging from the dreary brown. As a pacific north westerner, it can mean even more rain but mixed with glimpses of that bright yellow light we like to call sun! In the mood to take my camera out, I decided to go on a walk and take pictures of whatever caught my fancy.<br />
<br />
For me photography is either planned or unplanned. That seems simple enough, but none the less, they are very different. When photographing people, events or even the 52 week photo challenge it takes a lot of planning and preparation on my part because when you step out into the field you have a set objective you wish to achieve. As you can imagine, sometimes this can take the fun out of photography, which is why I like to step back and go out into the field without a plan, which is exactly what I did today.<br />
<br />
Prepared with my plastic bag and rain jacket I set out for the south end of the island and was pleasantly surprised to find the rain had let up. As soon as I parked my car and walked across the street I was greeted by a little song bird, who amazingly, sat long enough for me to take a photo.<br />

(<a href="http://myfourhensphotography.com/photographers/" target="_blank">My Four Hens Photography</a>) Being inspired to me means being moved by something to the point of taking action or making a life change. As a photographer I can be inspired by the way the light shines through the trees or the way a person naturally and comfortably poses, to name a few. If you look hard enough you can find inspiration in just about anything and that is what makes the world so interesting.<br />
<br />
One of the last times that I was inspired to the point of being in awe, was when I was in Sevilla, Spain. It was there that I was able to watch a traditional Flamenco show. I was caught up in the movement, the music and most of all the passion and energy that went into every step and every sound. It was an image and energy that I have yet to forget and also the inspiration for this photo shoot.<br />
<br />
I decided to venture off the Island and head out to the Hood Canal. It was there that I found a small park just outside of Gig Harbor. Although today was a very gray day, I was still able to enjoy myself and I hope you enjoy the result!<br />

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Here is my photo for the theme. I took the idea of movement and energy that starts from the feet like I saw in the flamenco dancers. I then added my own twist by adding words. Ideas start with what you see, but for me writing is where I take the ideas and use them to complete thoughts and create something. </div>

You can join the 52 week photo challenge by going to, <a href="http://myfourhensphotography.com/photographers/" target="_blank">M4H Photography</a>! Hmmm, back to, white? White as a color was not the most inspiring thing I had heard lately, but sure enough, I found myself getting excited with lots of ideas. When brainstorming, my brain tends to get stuck on and jump first to, flowers! This is probably due to the fact that flowers are one of my favorite things in the world...so what did I do? I went out and found some white flowers to add to my photograph!<br />

This weeks theme was; Composed. When I think of composer I think of control and a sense of calmness. For photography it is a similar thing. Composing is a part of the process when you are creating a photograph and an important one at that. When you are composing a photograph you are mentally deciding what elements are important and how you are going to frame your subject. It does not matter if you happen upon a subject quickly that you wish to photograph or whether your subject was pre-meditated, you are always going to make a choice about how you wish that photograph to be captured.<br />
<br />
Having said that, some photographs are more composed then others. So, for this week, I decided to photograph in a way that is not normally my style, and completely create my subject. For this particular shoot I went to a shore access at the mouth of Eagle Harbor, where if you show up early enough in the morning (around 6 am) you can watch the rowing team practice!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjE1F8WFj2S7cFdNIjzHKhwQCILkCbTLkb7PvY8Am_QT9ISYrDgnwjfnGXx9-OLPA_xgsPOnfhODbYhVPx9dCIfgqg_pptk5L9_Qc7jTl2rqBSsm8CTKL70LFuqf9rvlXcBD7ebYDG1fuU/s1600/_DSC0424.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="214" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjE1F8WFj2S7cFdNIjzHKhwQCILkCbTLkb7PvY8Am_QT9ISYrDgnwjfnGXx9-OLPA_xgsPOnfhODbYhVPx9dCIfgqg_pptk5L9_Qc7jTl2rqBSsm8CTKL70LFuqf9rvlXcBD7ebYDG1fuU/s320/_DSC0424.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
So, here is an example of a photograph that was composed quickly and by using what was around me. This is generally the type of photograph that I like to do, just snapping whatever catches my eye!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjS1oTGMbgU-5hXCEqezGaK9ZA9KhlrpG49pHMNRRDvTiGd60bSIUIZNyhLkIIHU1qlhmFlMqms8DGLFkPys-36NwBGK8fzdKy9FfyVS1U4866g1Hg3fW6-iYK7QO5xta7Frl88zBUBRj4/s1600/_DSC0422.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="214" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjS1oTGMbgU-5hXCEqezGaK9ZA9KhlrpG49pHMNRRDvTiGd60bSIUIZNyhLkIIHU1qlhmFlMqms8DGLFkPys-36NwBGK8fzdKy9FfyVS1U4866g1Hg3fW6-iYK7QO5xta7Frl88zBUBRj4/s320/_DSC0422.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Here is another example of a photograph, this time becoming more composed, by taking a chosen subject and putting them in what is around them. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhLwLOaNxed0o_2_xcJO_I2dyffiVy3BlUS5nYJypgR-YhBBzpK5ld1wcb4BMa8jbmEOdEnfrrVI_Orb1gczXAtYTlQEU2NFQ3AvetDFSo_vsh5Q6vbbSzvuK6WcHHTVfa3Q7shLpto7XU/s1600/Dream%252C+Live%252C+Love.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="92" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhLwLOaNxed0o_2_xcJO_I2dyffiVy3BlUS5nYJypgR-YhBBzpK5ld1wcb4BMa8jbmEOdEnfrrVI_Orb1gczXAtYTlQEU2NFQ3AvetDFSo_vsh5Q6vbbSzvuK6WcHHTVfa3Q7shLpto7XU/s400/Dream%252C+Live%252C+Love.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
This is my final photo for composed. I took a subject and created it in a controlled background and then further edited to make a final image that I wanted. </div>

<a href="http://myfourhensphotography.com/photographers/" target="_blank">My Four Hens Photography</a><br />
<br />
The theme for week five was, my favorite color. As a beginning photographer you begin learning in black and white. You focus on your subject, line and composition of the photo and you edit for shades of gray. Color can be distracting and take away from the importance of your subject, but if done right and in the right context, it can also help to enhance your photograph and add interest. As a Fine Art photographer I tend to lean towards photos that are black and white.<br />
<br />
Since the theme of the week was color, and my favorite color, I decided to (mostly) leave out the black and white. I don't know if it is because I live in one of the grayest places in the country and I can't remember the last time I saw blue sky or because I actually enjoy the color blue, but that was the color that I chose to take as my focus. Bainbridge Island and the Seattle area in general is an area where people are surrounded by nature and it is important to our culture. This is why I tend to prefer to photograph outside as much as I can rather then in a studio. Enjoy!<br />

Well...routine is something that tends to be non existent in my life. Some people have everything planned out with lists, habits, appointments and so on, me on the other hand...I am a different story. Sure I do some of the same things everyday; eat, brush my teeth, shower, let the dog out, go to work etc, but when I do them throughout the day or how many times tends to be up in the air (except work of course). One thing however that I have been attempting to add to my tentative "daily routine" is time to walk and either write or read everyday. What has allowed me to be fairly consistent about this is all of the neat places I have found that I didn't even know existed or never had the time to stop. One of these places is Adams Park. For years I have driven by this place and for one reason or the other, I have never stopped. So today I finally did!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhLUK09G2-ik1-g_iWn84ktoVk59vMb-flGOsbwDCKe34BeIwt1gnkdlOojhgpuUZZ3mF8tZ_QYLPtZj9m9XbV_BMxcylH08rDSMonNEMnfgJxk-fKbwuo5kHaKGkYMNXMM_eUo2ULp9-g/s1600/_DSC0347.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="214" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhLUK09G2-ik1-g_iWn84ktoVk59vMb-flGOsbwDCKe34BeIwt1gnkdlOojhgpuUZZ3mF8tZ_QYLPtZj9m9XbV_BMxcylH08rDSMonNEMnfgJxk-fKbwuo5kHaKGkYMNXMM_eUo2ULp9-g/s320/_DSC0347.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
So it is at Adams Park that I photographed what my "daily routine" would hopefully look like.</div>

<br />
This weeks subject was, a little piece of me. When I was in my first photography class we had a self portrait assignment similar to this but we weren't aloud to use ourselves just something that represents us. So, again I decided to use things and place to help show you a glimpse of what I am about. When I wish for some peace and solitude the first place I have gone for years is Point White dock.<br />

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Bainbridge Island tends to be a very gray and forested area. This is one of the parks on the island that is wide open to the sky and prone to the ever so rare sun breaks. So naturally this is the setting in which I chose to photograph. For an artist who loves to write, what you chose to write on can always be...a little unexpected. As a photographer I love to mix objects that don't belong, one of my favorites being things that represent consumerism with the natural world. I combined all of these things together and came up with this:</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">

As a woman I have always been particularly interested in how these affect us and what we can do to challenge ideals that create a negative self image. So as my second quote I choose one by, Laurel Thatcher Ulrich, "Well-behaved women seldom make history."<br />
<br />
As inspiration for my photograph I took vintage objects that women would have been expected to wear in order for them to be considered a "proper woman". These items consisted of a tulle skirt, leather gloves and a pearl necklace. In contrast to the traditionally considered feminine objects I added more masculine items, such as; a thermal shirt, work boots and pants. By putting these objects together it created the nostalgic feeling of being a young girl playing dress up, while also allowing me to question what the affects of "feminine" may be and what restrictions that may put on the women of today.<br />
<br />
I chose this particular place to photograph due to its daring landscape. When I first saw the shoreline I felt as if it was daring me to cross the precarious path onto the cutout of receding land. Since the quote calls for women to question what they stand for, I thought it would be a perfect parallel.<br />

Sometimes I even find myself in mid conversation, relating life to things I saw on Pinterest. So it is no surprise that I have pinned MANY ideas and one of them being a category of quotes, or how I have stated it, "good sayings". In an attempt to actually use ideas that I have seen on Pinterest, I have decided to give myself a challenge. I am going to take quotes and try to convey them with photography. The first quote that I chose was;<br />
<br />
"One of the hardest parts of life is deciding whether to walk away or try harder." Unknown<br />
<br />
As an attempted optimist I went for ideas of a person walking down a path or at a crossroads and standing still trying to decide. But then in came the pessimist and before I knew it, I began brain storming ideas of abandonment, loneliness and walking away. I decided on something in between.<br />

Blakely Harbor is a place full of history that has been left to stand still and literally let time wash it away, which is why it makes it the perfect place to convey moving on or trying to fix what is broken. </div>

This weeks word was FRESH. When I first started to brainstorm ideas involving fresh, I thought of fruit and water. What is more refreshing then fruit right? As an art student when I think about fruit my brain goes to still lives and unfortunately that is just something I can not get super excited about, so I moved on to my second idea; water. The idea of running water and rain is very refreshing and calming, so when I was at the beach last I tried to convey the silent beauty of the tide washing away the rocks.<br />

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I was not satisfied with just one photo this time around so while at work I happened upon a beautiful sunset and began to take pictures. The end of a day is the start of a fresh day and with that hopefully a fresh, clear and calm mind. If I ever feel the need to be calm or refreshed, watching the sun set or rise will defiantly do the job. </div>
